Upgrading from 16GB to 64GB with this Crucial RAM made a noticeable difference in handling my photo and video editing software. It didn’t magically speed up everyday tasks like emails or typing, but for demanding creative work, it really helped the software run more efficiently. Just a heads up, if it’s your first time upgrading, watch some videos specific to your laptop model because the BIOS might take a minute to recognize the new RAM after installation.

This is high-quality memory. It’s Kingston "dual rank" 64GB DDR5 5600 MHz ram (CAS LATENCY 40-40-40-84 @ 5600 MHz) because single 32GB DDR5 sticks are all dual rank, and anything lower (16GB/24GB) is single rank. A 13th and 14th gen Intel chip can accommodate 32GB (2x16GB) single rank @5600MHz, and 64GB (2x32GB) dual rank WILL CLOCK DOWN to 5200MHz, but the CAS latency also drops to 38-37-37-73 CAS Latency timings. I'm getting my specs from the Kingston website for stock settings, and HW64info.exe on my PC right now is showing me my settings. My Sager 13900HX-RTX 4090 laptop did this automatically without me having to go into the BIOS after installing. Upon booting, it will read 64 GB dual rank and clock down to 5200 MHz with better latency, about 20-30 seconds longer than a normal boot time when identifying the new RAM. If you want a 5600 MHz speed, you must stick to 32GB (2x16). I can tell a difference in gaming at 4k by 3-7 fps, depending on the game versus the stock Crucial 4800MHz CAS latency 46 memory that came with my laptop. Having 64 GB of RAM keeps my system from crashing when playing heavily modded lists like "Nolvus" Skyrim, which regularly uses 35-37GB just for the game(42-43gb total with Windows) while my RTX 4090 uses about 14.5-15GB of VRAM. I can tell a difference when transferring large files and downloading large files with 64 GB. It will use much more RAM doing these things. My paging file only "needs" to be 2 GB according to Windows when I use 64 GB of RAM, but I still keep it at 10GB on my storage SSD. I think 64 GB is worth it if you game and do multi-core stuff with large file transfers and heavy decompression zip files et cetera. It is a worthy upgrade. I paid $220 for this about 2 years ago, and now it's only $169.99, and it is totally worth it.

I installed the Kingston Fury Impact 64GB DDR5 kit (2x32GB, 5600 MHz) on my Lenovo Legion Pro 5 16ARX8 (RTX 4060), and it works perfectly. The laptop detected the full 64GB with no issues. I'm a data science student and regularly use Python, Power BI, Docker, and virtual machines. This upgrade made a big difference. Everything runs smoother, especially when multitasking. Great performance and totally worth it.

How Do I Know If My Laptop Is Compatible With These DDR5 RAM Kits?
You should first check your laptop’s specifications or user manual to confirm it supports DDR5 memory and the maximum RAM capacity per slot. Most modern laptops with 12th or 13th Gen Intel Core or AMD Ryzen 7000 series processors support DDR5, but speeds may be capped (for example, 13th Gen Intel laptops often max out at 5200MHz even if the RAM is rated for 5600MHz). Use manufacturer tools or websites like Crucial’s compatibility tool to verify compatibility. Also, ensure your laptop uses the 262-pin SODIMM form factor, which is standard for DDR5 laptop memory. If you’re unsure, watching model-specific upgrade videos or consulting support forums can help you avoid installation issues.
Will Upgrading To 32GB Or More DDR5 RAM Significantly Improve My Laptop’s Performance?
Upgrading your RAM to 32GB or higher can greatly enhance your laptop’s ability to handle multitasking, demanding applications like 4K video editing, gaming, and running virtual machines. However, you might not notice faster speeds in everyday tasks like web browsing or typing emails. The improvement is more about smoother performance under heavy workloads and preventing slowdowns when multiple apps are open. Also, DDR5 RAM offers better energy efficiency, which can help with battery life. Remember that your CPU and storage speed also impact overall performance, so RAM is one part of the upgrade equation.
What Should I Expect During Installation And First Boot After Installing DDR5 RAM?
Installing DDR5 RAM is generally straightforward—just power off your laptop, disconnect the battery if possible, and carefully replace the old modules with the new ones. After installation, your laptop might take longer than usual to boot as the BIOS detects and calibrates the new memory. It’s common to see a black screen or hear beeps temporarily; don’t panic. Give it a few minutes, and it should start normally. If your laptop supports Intel XMP 3.0 or AMD EXPO, enabling these profiles can optimize RAM speed, but many kits also work well with plug-and-play settings. Watching tutorial videos for your specific laptop model can make the process easier and safer.
Wrapping Up
Upgrading your laptop with any of these DDR5 RAM kits will provide you with noticeable improvements in speed and responsiveness. Whether you prioritize overall value, gaming performance, or professional-grade multitasking, these options cover a range of needs and budgets. By choosing the right DDR5 memory, you ensure your laptop stays capable of handling current and future applications smoothly, making your investment worthwhile.
